BC Place's run as a World Cup host venue is over — the stadium wrapped its match-hosting duties last week, staging the ninth-last match of the tournament's full 104-game schedule. But for Vancouverites who want to be part of the World Cup atmosphere through the very last kick, there's still one place to do it: the FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park.

The Only Official World Cup Experience Left in Metro Vancouver

With BC Place done, the PNE fairgrounds fan festival is now the sole remaining official FIFA World Cup experience in the region — and it's closing out its run in a big way. According to Daily Hive, the festival has now drawn more than 500,000 visitors since opening on June 11, spread across 28 select days of the tournament's 39-day run. At capacity, the site holds up to 25,000 people at once, including 10,000 inside the new PNE amphitheatre.

The festival is dark today, Thursday, July 16. Friday, July 17 has no match on the schedule either, but the site reopens in the evening for a ticketed amphitheatre concert featuring Shades of Day, Grayson Repp, SG Lewis, and Kx5.

Final Weekend: What's There and When

This weekend is the last chance to experience the fan festival's full programming alongside the World Cup itself. Beyond the more than 10 giant screens scattered across the grounds, Daily Hive has highlighted an immersive soccer pitch installation from Destination BC as one of the site's standout features. Given the crowds this festival has already pulled in, arriving early for the final weekend is a good idea.

Saturday, July 18 — 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fan festival screens the third-place match between England and France, kicking off at 2 p.m. PT.

Sunday, July 19 — 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival's final day of operation closes out the tournament with the FIFA World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina, kicking off at 12 p.m. PT.

Worth knowing if you're weighing an amphitheatre ticket over the free general admission areas: Daily Hive has reported that while most festival dates have sold at well under capacity, July 19 — final day — is the exception, running close to sold out. The free general admission floor and Park Stage remain first-come, first-served with no ticket required, so showing up early is the more reliable way in in this closing weekend.

For Vancouver's football community, it's a fitting way for the World Cup to leave the city — not with the stadium lights at BC Place, but with one last packed weekend at Hastings Park, watching the tournament's final two matches play out an entire continent away.
